‘Imran Khan’s Health Stable, But Facing Mental Torture’, Claims Sister After Jail Meet | World News

According to Dawn News on Tuesday evening, former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan is in good health and his sister Dr. He reportedly met Uzma Khanum. The meeting followed weeks of speculation about Khan’s condition, which was further intensified by reports that his family had been banned from visiting him for several weeks.
The unrest over Khan’s health followed protests by his supporters in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, which led authorities to impose restrictions on large gatherings. Despite these measures, PTI followers continued to agitate outside the Islamabad High Court earlier in the day.

Concerns about Khan’s health were heightened last month when his three sisters, Noreen Niazi, Aleema Khan and Uzma Khan, claimed they were attacked while trying to meet him. His sons also raised alarm, claiming prison officials were concealing “something irreversible” about their father’s condition. One of the sons, Kasim Khan, told Reuters there was no verifiable contact despite a court order mandating weekly visits. The family also reported that access to Khan’s private doctor was blocked.
Before Tuesday’s meeting, neither Khan’s family nor Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members had seen him for more than 25 days, fueling rumors that the former Prime Minister may have died, with speculation suggesting that authorities were trying to cover up due to his popularity. Pressure on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government has intensified, with PTI Senator Khurram Zeeshan claiming that Khan was being kept in isolation as a strategy to force him to leave Pakistan. Zeeshan claimed that the government felt threatened by Khan’s widespread support and therefore refrained from sharing his proof of life.
Khan, the 72-year-old World Cup-winning cricketer and politician, has been in prison since August 2023. Rumors of death are circulating on social media accounts in Afghanistan, where tensions are high due to a border dispute with Pakistan.
On Tuesday, Uzma Khan was finally allowed to meet her brother in Adiala Jail as PTI members threatened mass protests despite restrictions in Rawalpindi. Speaking to reporters after the visit, he confirmed that Khan was kept in solitary confinement and subjected to mental pressure, but was otherwise in good health. He put an end to the death rumors circulating by saying, “Imran Khan is in good condition, his health is good. He is being kept in isolation, he is being mentally tortured.”
Earlier reports suggested that prison authorities allowed the meeting under strict conditions, but Uzma clarified: “No conditions were imposed. We are not going according to conditions.” He described his relief at finally being allowed to meet his brother in the middle of a heavily guarded prison complex.
The weeks leading up to the meeting were marked by escalating tensions around Adiala Jail, with the deployment of more than 700 security personnel, the establishment of additional checkpoints and protests by Khan’s sisters and PTI workers. Last week, her sisters claimed they were manhandled and briefly detained by police while they were protesting.
Adiala Prison management and government have consistently maintained that Khan is in good health and is receiving full medical care. The management said, “The news about his transfer from Adiala Prison does not reflect any truth. He is completely healthy.”
The meeting came as a huge relief to the former Prime Minister’s supporters, ending weeks of speculation about his situation, even as political tensions over his prison sentence continue to simmer.
