Kurt Russell on 43 years with Goldie Hawn: ‘Let’s have fun until we don’t’

Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have been entertaining together for 43 years.

In a recent interview Wall StreetJournalThe 75-year-old actor talked about the early days of his relationship with Hawn after they met for the first time when he was 15 on the set of “The One and Only, Original, Original Family Band” in 1967 and said, “Hawn was a 21-year-old dancer.”

“Goldie and I met again in 1983 while working on the movie ‘Swing Shift,'” he said. “We were both divorced by then, and he had two little kids—Oliver and Kate—and I had a kid named Boston. We hit it off and agreed, ‘Let’s have fun until we don’t.’ It’s been 43 years.”

Although they never married, the two joined their families and built a life together over the past four decades, raising their children together and welcoming their son Wyatt together in July 1986.

These days, Russell says he and Hawn “split our time between homes in Los Angeles, Palm Desert, California, Old Snowmass, Colorado, and New York,” and Russell says his favorite is the house in Old Snowmass.

“It’s a big, beautiful log cabin cabin on a farm we moved to a little over 40 years ago,” Russell said. “Goldie and I share a passion for log homes. I’ve always kept that in mind, starting with the one in Maine.”

Hawn said about her decision not to marry in September 2007: Women’s Day the two “did an excellent job without getting married.”

“I already feel loyal,” he added, adding that the two are “good” as long as his “emotional state is one of commitment, honesty, affection and love.”

“We’re both financially independent, we’re both doing well independently,” she said. “We’ve raised our kids wonderfully; they’re beautiful people. We’ve done a great job there, and we didn’t need to get married to do it. I like waking up every day and seeing it there and knowing I have a choice. There’s really no reason to get married.”

Kate and Oliver Hudson were three and five years old, respectively, when Russell entered their lives, and the two have been open about looking to him as a father figure, revealing that they call him “Dad.”

In a November 2024 episode of their podcast, “Sibling Revelry,” Oliver recognized Russell as the man who “raised me,” adding, “I am the man I am today because of him.”

“There was a moment when he asked us, me and Kate, if we wanted to be adopted, and we said no. You know, we weren’t really aware of what that meant. … We just said, ‘Well, we don’t need that. Love is right there.'”

“At the same time, when you have no biological characteristics [father] No matter what, it is difficult to change this. Love was there with Kurt, there’s no doubt about that. He is my father. I call him dad. But there wasn’t always anything missing, but it was always like, ‘Wow, but there’s also the other side.'”

During the episode, Oliver also admitted that he had developed a good relationship with his biological father, Bill Hudson, at that point, saying “it took a long, long, long time.”
