YSRCP Launches Protests against Privatisation of Medical Colleges in AP

Amaravati: YSRCP on Wednesday launched state-wide protests against the Andhra Pradesh government’s allegations of privatizing government medical colleges.
The opposition party said rallies were held in all 175 Assembly constituencies, with people signing a one-crore signature campaign and demanding withdrawal of the decision alleging privatization of medical colleges.
The party led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy alleged that the decision threatens affordable medical education for poor students and deprives the underprivileged of access to multi-specialty healthcare under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
“We launched statewide protests today against the NDA coalition government’s disastrous move to privatize government medical colleges, threatening affordable education and public healthcare,” YSRCP said in a statement.
It was also stated that former Prime Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy established 17 medical colleges, five of them were opened with acceptance, while Pulivendula and Paderu were almost completed.
The TDP-led government had earlier announced plans to inaugurate 10 newly opened government medical colleges under the PPP model to ensure faster implementation and access to better healthcare.
It was observed that this move aims to address long-pending gaps in medical education and public health infrastructure across the state.
The government directs private sector talent to construction, equipment, operations and maintenance, accelerating delivery and ensuring continuity of quality clinical services.
