Yoga has become world’s largest community celebration, says PM Modi

Speaking at the 12th International Yoga Day celebrations in Kolkata, Modi said that June 21, the longest day in the world, is now recognized as yoga day worldwide.
“June 21, the longest day in the world, has now become the biggest social celebration day thanks to yoga. Yoga brings people together. I congratulate the people of the world on this occasion,” he said.
The Prime Minister also congratulated the people of Kolkata for pursuing the ‘Swachhata Se Swagat’ initiative with dedication.
Addressing this year’s International Yoga Day theme ‘Yoga for Healthy Aging’, Modi said ancient practices play a crucial role in promoting physical health, mental well-being and active ageing, thereby improving quality of life.
“Yoga is not just physical exercise. It is not limited to any age group. It is an expression of the human spirit,” he said.
Emphasizing the importance of healthy aging, Modi said that efforts should be made to ensure that advancing age does not reduce human potential. “When we say yoga for healthy aging, we can work to ensure that age does not reduce human potential,” he said.
“Our goal is to be more flexible at 40 than we were at 20. We aim to be more energetic at 50 than we were at 30,” he said.
The Prime Minister also said that people should not restrict yoga to only certain occasions and yoga should be made a part of people’s lives.
