MP Man Arrested 45 Years After Stealing Wheat

-Bhopal: The long hand of the law finally caught a man in Madhya Pradesh district after 45 years for stealing wheat worth Rs 100 crore.

Sixty-five-year-old Salim could not believe it when the police knocked on the door of his grocery store in Bag village in Dhar district late on Saturday night to arrest him for the wheat theft he committed along with six others in 1980, when he was 20 years old.

“During interrogation after his arrest, Salim said that he believed that the case against him should have been completely forgotten and buried,” Khaltaka police station in-charge Mithun Chauhan told the media on Sunday.

According to the police, Salim, the original resident of Balkhad under Balakwada police station in neighboring Khargone district, and six others were accused of stealing wheat from Balsamund Kakad area in the district in 1980.

The value of the stolen wheat was Rs 100. At that time, the price of a city wheat was 115 Rupees.

Salim later fled from his village to Bag in Dhar district to avoid being harassed by the police and lived in anonymity.

According to police, the case is ongoing in court and an arrest warrant has been issued.

He opened a grocery store in Bag village and lived a normal life for the last forty-five years until the long hand of the law caught up with him on Saturday night.

A cyber cell-assisted call from another accused led the police to Salim.

Police said Salim was produced in the local court, which sent him to judicial custody.
