Air quality in Kerala in the range ‘satisfactory-good’: State Pollution Control Board report

According to a report prepared by the Kerala State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), Kerala’s ambient air quality is currently in the range of ‘satisfactory good’.

Inferences are collected based on data collected from the air quality monitoring network, which includes 40 manual and nine continuous ambient monitoring stations in the state.

The report dated September 1, 2025 was presented before the Southern Bank of the National Green Court (NGT) in the case of the air quality in Kerala.

State Action Plan

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) stated that steps have been initiated to implement a comprehensive state action plan on air quality according to the necessary guidance and the instructions given by the court. According to the report, there are no critically contaminated areas in the state.

The Board has claimed that industries have been taken by industries to minimize volatile organic compound emissions caused by storage, transportation and waste transport facilities. In order to ensure that the emission and ambient conditions are within the prescribed boundaries, it contained a third -party monitoring system accredited by the National Accreditation Board and a third -party monitoring system.

The Board said that 40 industrial units were connected to the online continuous emission monitoring system (OCEM) compulsory by the Central Pollution Control Board. 13 of them fall into the category of industries that pollute high.

In Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, the State Environment Department, Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram entrusted the Institute of Energy and Resource to conduct a resource sharing work in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram as part of the determination of pollution resources in the air air in two cities. According to the NGT direction, the cost of the study should be covered by the state government, CPCB and KSPCB in the 50:30:20 ration respectively.
