‘The View’: Alyssa Farah Griffin Questions Why Mike Johnson Is Encouraging People to Watch No Kings Protests If They’re ‘Hate Rallies’

Nationwide No Kings protests against President Trump will take place once again this weekend, prompting House Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republicans to label them “Hate America” rallies. That’s why “The View” host Alyssa Farah Griffin was a little confused Friday after Johnson encouraged people to watch the series.

Protests were the first Hot Topic of the day, and to kick off the discussion ABC hosts played a clip of Johnson telling voters to watch the protests, see who’s coming and make assumptions about those people. While the hosts were all upset by Johnson’s assessment, Farah Griffin was also immediately stunned.

“I also don’t understand why you’re talking about this unless you want to draw attention to something that goes against your agenda,” he said. “‘Attend the rallies this weekend! Watch them!’ “I can’t say.”

But more than anything else, women were disturbed by Johnson’s shaming of the protests. Moderator Joy Behar (sitting in for Whoopi Goldberg, who is off on Fridays) stated that she was “angry” at herself, calling the protests hate rallies, while other hosts reminded viewers that peaceful protests are a constitutional right.

“He clearly fails to understand that the people who take to the streets to protest are protesting because they love the country and they know it can be great like that,” host Sara Haines said.

“I think Mike Johnson has it all wrong,” Ana Navarro said. “This is not about hating America, it’s about loving America. This is about defending American values and democracy. Do you know what it is to hate America or not to love America? Not to love America is to do nothing when good people are gathered in the streets of America.”

The women were also quick to point out that Johnson and other Republicans called the Jan. 6 insurrection in the capital a “normal tourist attraction” but called the peaceful protests “Hate America Rallies.”

“I think what he needs to do is listen to the fact that there are so many people and so many events going on,” host Sunny Hostin said. “And there’s a real problem with the Republican leadership, and with the Republican shutdown, thousands and thousands and thousands of people are not getting paid, they’re losing their jobs, Congress has health care while Congress gets paid. And the American people are fed up.”

You can watch the entire discussion on “The View” in the video above.
