John Pesutto pays $2.3m defamation debt to Moira Deeming, avoiding bankruptcy | Victorian politics

Former Victorian liberal leader John Pesutto paid $ 2.3 million in legal costs to his colleague Moira, and drowned the last trench effort to prevent payment by a party member.

Payment made with a loan of $ 1.5 million from the Victoria Liberal Party means that Pesutto will avoid bankruptcy and remain in the state parliament as a Hawthorn member.

Last month, the Federal Court found that Pesutto decided that Deeming’s legal costs decided to $ 2,308.873 in December.

The costs were in addition to the damage of $ 300,000 after the Federal Court decision and the interest rate of $ 15,000 to Pesutto.

Pesutto launched a donation collection campaign to help pay the bill, but on Thursday, the liberal party approved by the administrative committee was forced to rely on a loan of $ 1.5 million from Vapold from the investment vehicle.

The payment of costs eliminates the possibility of a court difficulty against Vapold, which provides the loan by the administrative committee member.
