Architect Frank Gehry dead at 96

Frank Gehry, considered one of the most influential architects of the century, died at the age of 96.

Gehry is known for his avant-garde, experimental architectural style. The titanium-clad design of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao in Spain made him famous in 1997.

Years ago, he established his bold reputation by redesigning his own home in Santa Monica, California, using materials such as chain-link fencing, plywood and corrugated steel.

“Gehry is survived by two daughters, Leslie and Brina, from his first marriage; his wife, Berta Isabel Aguilera, and two sons, Alejandro and Samuel,” chief of staff Meaghan Lloyd told the BBC on Friday.
