MPs supported the assisted death bill in a historic Commons game on Friday and passed the 23 votes majority after a four -hour emotional debate.
The invoice of adults (the end of life) in the terminal patient allows fatal patient adults in England and Wales to resort to assisted death within less than six months. Applications will require approval from two doctors and a panel such as social workers, a high -level legal figure and a psychiatrist.
The bill is now moving to the House of Lords for more examination.
The supporters celebrated the moment as a big step to legalize the assisted death before the next election.
Humanists, England CEO Andrew Copson praised MPs for reflecting public support for dignity and choice at the end of life. Bill sponsor Kim Leadbeater was seen in tears as the result was announced.
However, the voices of the opposition remain strong. Critics described the bill as “deeply flawed and dangerous .. James Sanderson, CEO of Palliatiative Care Charity Sue Ryder, warned that insufficient ending care may leave no other option.
“Our research shows that 77 percent of people believe that bad care access can push deadly patients to helpful death,” he said.
