Nick Reiner made his first court appearance in Los Angeles today on murder charges in the double murder of his parents.
The 32-year-old man was seen wearing jeans and a suicide vest without a shirt underneath. He did not enter a plea and his trial continued until January 7.
Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife Michele Singer Reiner, 70, were found dead of stab wounds in their $13.5 million mansion in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Their son has since been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the killings of his Hollywood legend father and photographer mother.
Prosecutors added special circumstances, including multiple murders and the use of a knife, a dangerous weapon; This means that if convicted, Nick could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or even the death penalty.
The couple’s daughter, Romy Reiner, allegedly fled the family’s home in pain after finding her father murdered on a blood-soaked bed and told police that her brother Nick must be the suspect.

Nick Reiner was spotted by reporters at the Los Angeles courthouse where he was due to appear before a judge after being accused of the double murder of his parents.
The hearing was scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. ET/8:30 a.m. PT but appears to have been postponed.
Nick was charged with two counts of first-degree murder for the killings of his Hollywood legend father, Rob Reiner, and his photographer mother, Michelle Singer Reiner.

Nick Reiner may face death penalty
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced Tuesday that the office has charged Nick Reiner with two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of his parents.
“These charges will be two counts of first-degree murder with the special circumstance of multiple murders,” Hochman said.
‘We are also faced with a specific allegation that he used a dangerous weapon such as a knife.
‘These charges carry a maximum penalty of life imprisonment without the possibility of parole or the death penalty.’
Hochman said that authorities “will take into account the family’s thoughts and wishes” when applying for the death penalty for Reiner, but a decision has not yet been made on whether prosecutors will seek this penalty.
Nick Reiner will appear in court after medical evaluation
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said Nick Reiner will appear in court for the first time since receiving medical leave.
“He goes through the medical clearance process, which is something that everyone who is arrested and held in the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department jail goes through,” Hochman said at Tuesday’s press conference.
‘He will appear in court on these charges once he is medically cleared. At this point he will confess his guilt or innocence.’
Earlier Tuesday, Nick’s attorney, Alan Jackson, said his client was not medically cleared to be transferred from prison to the courthouse, but did not disclose further details about his condition or the case.
Police said there was no indication that Nick was under the influence of drugs at the time of his arrest.
Reiner allegedly had a checkered history of substance abuse and mental health issues before his arrest and was living in a guest house on his parents’ property.
