Alleged shooter reportedly revealed his motive for deadly country club rampage

The New Hampshire man accused of opening fire inside a golf club and killing a man last year reportedly confessed to the attack, telling investigators he intended to kill rich people.
Hunter West Nadeau, 24, told police he opened fire at a steakhouse at the Sky Meadow Club in Nashua to retaliate against the rich for “not helping the poor,” according to a police affidavit. Boston Globe.
The affidavit reportedly pointed to security camera video showing Nadeau entering the club’s main entrance wearing a black hoodie and a green backpack around 7:17 p.m. on Sept. 20.
Nadeau then allegedly walked into the PRIME steakhouse, wore a face mask and brandished a gun, firing five shots at employee Steve Burtman, according to testimony.

Burtman, who was reportedly assigned to the front office, was struck in the face, the outlet reported. He survived his injuries.
Surveillance footage then reportedly shows Nadeau entering the restaurant and firing five more shots at several customers.
Nadeau allegedly shot and killed 59-year-old Robert Steven DeCesare, who was eating dinner with his wife and daughter. A third patron was also injured after he allegedly fired multiple shots into a group of people.

Nadeau then “continued shooting until he was attacked by other patrons in the restaurant and retreated through the doors of the steakhouse,” the affidavit said.
An eyewitness who spoke to the Associated Press claimed that Nadeau shouted “Free Palestine” during the chaos.
Police later found Nadeau on the club’s golf course; here he was “bleeding from self-inflicted wounds” [his] He made statements that he was a “bad guy,” according to the filing.
He later reportedly claimed responsibility for the shooting and told officers about his negative feelings towards the wealthy.

Speaking to authorities from his hospital bed, Nadeau told investigators he was “tired of the elites taking all the money.”
Nadeau also reportedly told investigators he chose Sky Meadow because he had worked there before and knew its members were wealthy.
“He said he chose Sky Meadow as a location because he had worked there as a server about a year ago and knew you had to have money to be a member there,” police said, according to the Globe. he said.

Police reportedly stated that he “did not target a specific person but did not care if he killed someone.”
Additionally, Nadeau explained why he chose not to target a wedding being held at the scene at the time of the attack, telling police that he “didn’t want to target ‘civilians,'” according to the press.
The shooting at the time came less than a year after Luigi Mangione allegedly opened fire on UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson during an assassination attempt in midtown Manhattan. Investigators noted similar ideological motivations were behind Mangione’s alleged crimes.

In January, prosecutors filed multiple charges against Nadeau, including first-degree murder and reckless second-degree murder. accordingly New Hampshire Department of Justice.
