Actress Joanna Cassidy opens up about her romance with Alan Hamel

Joanna Cassidy opened up about her relationship with Alan Hamel in a recent podcast.

In a recent interview “Still Here Podcast with Steve KmetkoThe 80-year-old actor talked about his current relationship after the presenter asked if he was seeing anyone.

“Yes, I’m dating someone,” he said. “She’s actually a widow and it’s really interesting because I haven’t been dating anyone in a long time. I honestly don’t know, she hasn’t come into my life and God knows I’m in there somewhere.”

She said the person she’s “always” been looking for is looking for a romantic connection, and that she started dating her new man “after meeting him a year ago and things are going well.”

When asked to share more about who her new man is, Cassidy first tried to keep it a secret, saying, “I’m a very private person,” before adding, “his name is Alan Hamel, he was married to Suzanne Somers for many years.”

Hamel and Somers were together for 55 years and married for 46 years before the “Three’s Company” actress died in October 2023 following a battle with breast cancer.

Somers and Cassidy worked together on the three-part 1985 ABC miniseries “Hollywood Wives,” but when asked if that made dating his widow weird, Cassidy explained, “Not at all, not my thing.”

Cassidy was previously married to psychiatrist Dr. Cassidy, with whom she shared two children for 10 years from 1964 to 1974. She was married to Kennard C. Kobrin.

While Cassidy hasn’t spoken publicly about her relationship with Hamel in the past, she did previously open up about their romance in a June 2025 interview with Page Six. He said he met Cassidy 45 years ago when she was a guest on his show, and added: “We loved each other, not romantically, but mainly with respect.”

“My son [from a previous marriage] “We met Joanna at a screening, and after a long conversation, he suggested to Joanna that he and I would get along and we should meet up,” Hamel said of their recent reconnection. “Stephen didn’t know we knew each other.”

Hamel further elaborated on his relationship with Cassidy in an August 2025 interview with Fox News Digital, saying they had a good connection and “We spent a lot of time with each other, which is great.”

She explained that it was “weird” to return to the dating scene following Somers’ death, but she knew it was what he wanted for himself.

“It’s no Hollywood BS and we have a lot of laughs,” he said. “Twice in Suzanne’s last few days she said to me, ‘Don’t be sad. Live your life. See you when I cross the street.’ I’m lucky to have Joanna in my life. Most men would love to have a Joanna in their life.”

Cassidy, for her part, told Fox News Digital that the bond between her and Hamel was “pretty natural,” adding: “I felt very comfortable. … I think our first date lasted three days.”
