Moment woman, 19, mows down man in her Fiat 500 because she was ‘distracted’ while chatting to friend

This is the shocking moment a young woman used her Fiat 500 to mow down a man playing rugby with friends.

Lexi Dyas, 19, was jailed after a judge watched video of her hitting 21-year-old Declan Mahoney at ‘excessive speed’.

In the video, Mr Mahoney can be seen throwing a rugby ball with friends just before Dyas’s speeding car crashed into him, sending him flying into the air.

As Dyas pulls over and gets out of the car, two of his friends run to help him.

Cardiff Crown Court heard Mr Mahoney tried to move out of the way but Dyas pushed his car, with personalized number plate ‘LX06MAE’, off the road.

He was hospitalized with multiple fractures to his arm, leg and finger following the collision at Mountain Ash in South Wales in July 2024.

Dyas, who was sobbing in court, claimed in his statement to the police that it was an ‘accident’ after he got distracted behind the wheel while chatting with a friend.

Prosecutor Andrew Davies said: ‘He stated that the incident was an accident caused by his inability to concentrate.

Ms Harris said Dyas, who dreamed of becoming a nurse, ‘felt terrible’ about the injuries she had caused.
