The incident triggered anger
The incident triggered outrage among local women; Many of them alleged that drugs, especially ‘chitta’, were openly sold in the area, even near the walls of Sultanpur Lodhi police station. Residents claimed that masked traders arrived on motorbikes, quickly delivered packages and left without fear of being caught.
Residents of Pandori Mohalla have expressed concern over the growing drug problem in the area, saying that it has claimed the lives of many young people. On Monday, police carried out a search operation in the area, during which many women expressed their anger at the easy availability of drugs. Three addicts were handed over to the police for treatment by their families.
Charanjit Kaur, another resident, said she also lost two sons to drug addiction; one seven years ago and the other about three years ago.
Many women in the neighborhood shared similar stories about losing two or three sons, while others said their sole breadwinner became a victim of addiction. A grieving grandmother pointed to her little grandchildren and begged, “Our sons are gone, at least save these innocent children.”
