British backpacker jailed for 4 years over fatal drunk e-scooter crash

A British backpacker who hit and killed a man while driving an e-scooter while drunk has been sentenced to four years in prison in Australia.
Alicia Kemp, 25, from Redditch, Worcestershire, was traveling at 20 to 25 km/h (12 to 15 mph) when she rear-ended Thanh Phan, 51, on a Perth pavement in May.
The court heard the woman had been drinking with a friend all afternoon and her alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit.
Phan, a father of two, hit his head on the pavement and died in hospital two days later of a brain hemorrhage.
A friend of Kemp’s who was a scooter passenger was also injured in the crash, suffering a fractured skull and broken nose, but his injuries are not life-threatening.
Kemp, who was in Australia on a working holiday visa, pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving in the Perth Magistrates’ Court in August.
His sentence will be backdated to June 1, and he will be eligible for parole after serving two years of his sentence. His license was also disqualified for two years.
