Pauline Collins, star of Shirley Valentine, dies at aged 85

Pauline Collins, star of the movie Shirley Valentine, for which she was nominated for an Oscar in 1990, died at the age of 85.

He died “peacefully” at his London care home, aged 85, surrounded by his family, who had been suffering from Parkinson’s disease for several years, his family said.

Collins will be remembered for her portrayal of disgruntled housewife Shirley in Lewis Gilbert’s award-winning film, based on Willy Russell’s acclaimed stage play.

Her performance, which received full marks from critics, earned her the BAFTA Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress.
