Opposition Leader Steven Miles tears up policy platform

In a speech to party faithful on Saturday, Miles dismissed speculation of a breakup.

“I can assure you all that my team and I are absolutely determined to return Labor to government in 2028,” he said.

“And spending every day between fighting against David Crisafulli and the LNP. With each passing day I find myself more certain not only of how important this task is… but also of how possible it is.”

Miles said a key element of the “pathway to government” was restoring Labor support in the regions after the party suffered significant losses outside urban areas in 2024.

“We all need your commitment, the same support we gave to Albo and the federal campaign,” he told the meeting.

“We have launched a regional recruitment drive based on our regional shadow cabinet programme, which we will continue to implement next year.”

A recent Resolve Strategic poll for this imprint showed Labor trailing the LNP by just one point (33 to 32), although Crisafulli was well ahead of his rival in the personal poll.

Crisafulli’s personal net favorability score remained at +17 compared to Miles’ -2.
