Secrets of Dyson: ALICE BEER visits its gadget-laden HQ to try out the products of tomorrow

Like the Charlie Bucket on the gates of the Wonka Chocolate Factory, I was extremely excited to go to Dyson’s Wiltshire Headquarters.
One morning, some of Dyson’s best engineers, I planned to lift the cover on some secrets behind these iconic household vehicles.
Which products do we need in our next house? What kind of machine becomes a machine and frankly, most importantly, what’s behind the closed doors right now?
The full explanation, I am a great Dyson fan – I don’t have every gadget, but I spent more than confessing to cleaning, drying, straightening and cooling machines collection.
As a consumer journalist under my belt, 30 years later, there are not many domestic devices or home vehicles that I do not take my critical hands.
Actually, a machine I want to use, easy and productivity to do business is surprisingly difficult to do.
Beer was here! Alice visited Dyson in Wiltshire to lift the lid on its tools.
When I first saved the lottery of a Dyson product, I was shooting a TV show in the mid -nineties.
The ordinary street, the ordinary house, and it sticks so clearly that when someone drops a crushed biscuit, the interviewer hangs on a dock next to the kitchen gate and vacuumly vacuumly.
No scrabling in the cupboard under the stairs, no strain and brush, change and reach towards a socket. It was a home business completed with good efficiency.
I was shot.
Dyson, of course, touches every product that leaves James Dyson and the factory. At the beginning of the week, Dyson showed that he sold 20 million units for the first time in a year.
James, a creative and curious child, turned into a questioning adult and one day he challenged by a wheelbar that refused to move in a cumbersome garden, questioning the accepted shape of the daily object, changed a thin rod wheel for a ball easily rolling over the clay.
Painting the new bars led to the considering of the airflow technology.
Later, the extension of this new information about the movement of the air led to a home operation in James’s weak -performance vacuum cleaner.
He lost suction power while filled the bag. I can imagine the happy native scene as James built and adjusts the structure of the cyclonic vacuum cleaner without a bag until it is born on the ground.
Famous, it was to take the 5,127 factory iteration of the machine before it was ready to go to the market.
Trial error, trial and error is over many times, finally leads to success.
The most radical vacuum redesign in decades
The first stop of my Dyson tour was chatting with Senior Engineer Ketan Patel.
Opener: Is this building full of bright minds that make decisions about what we need in our homes and how we want our daily machines to work?
He put me right. Dyson machines are not made by Boffins on the white floors separated from the real world.
This is not a job where ideas are stuck in the system or stayed in an unread e -mail.
The feedback from the houses that Dysons protected must be directly live and receiving.
If you buy a new Dysonv16 piston animal when it is released next year, we would like to thank Ketan’s grandmother to get a head from dry vacuum to wet cleaning, no longer requires a bend to the ground.
The release button approached the user’s hands, and the magnets clicked the machine’s shaft satisfying the new head.
You are ready to look at the kitchen floor from carpet. Unfortunately, the grandmother is not here to enjoy the launch of the influence of the UK market next year.
In the next laboratory, shelves carry pots from any kind of house de -de -de -de -detectus that may need to vacuum from the floor (the same brand but slightly different grains from all over the world).
Here, engineers have probably tested the most radical vacuum re -design since the first Dyson bar.
The motor has shrunk into the diameter of two euro medallions, and now a toilet roller is the narrow shaft of the rod, which is not much wider than the inner tube, the dirt is satisfactory.
Miniaturizing is an impulse for Dyson sales in the East, where Pennevac 15067795 has just begun.
Apparently, the fine adjustments that will radically improve the vacuum experience have been well received: a green light shines both in front and behind the head, dirt, thin hairs and particles.
Why is green? Because it seems that the most comfortable light and research showing that the human eye is the least common ground color in the UK.
A Pennilvac was given to try to move from the carpet to the concrete floor.
Did I notice that the conical cylinders mean that more hair is not mixed and slowing the performance?
In addition, soft pillow edges, which mean drawing kitchen kickboards, will become something that will remain in the past.
The engineer is very excited about innovations that he is contagious.
I can confirm that Penelevac is so maneuver and agile that it will easily reach the Blackpool scene that dances tightly.
Sound laboratory makes products more attractive
We walled the corridor by passing through the laboratory where dust mites are grown for vacuum and to meet Sophie: Sophie in Sound Lab.
In fact, Sophie and its colleagues analyze the noise of each machine (and of course the noise of every repetition of their competitors, and at the same time by extracting all kinds of information on my GCSE classes, Sophie and their colleagues can make them more attractive, and of course the proponent of each machine (and of course the competitors). Think of sophisticated foam wedges).
Oh yes, and the ears of his four -legged friend. If the process is disturbing to your ears and you want to escape, you cannot make a vacuum head to brush Fido.
Sophie, like all Dyson employees I met during my visit, is gentle and passionate about what she does.
If you left the anabolic room to come to a dinner party, you would be fascinated by an engineering passion.
You also discover that Sophie was the first cohort to graduate from the Dyson Institute in 2021 from a four -year course.
The engineering course, which is the most subscribers in the UK, attracts the best and brightest young minds and shapes them as British design engineers of the future.
Oxbridge places are rejected for one of the 40 envied points in the group for one year and it is not difficult to see attraction; Students live in beautiful modern capsules for the first year.
They are paid salaries and like all the employees they eat free of charge in the Dyson restaurant.
Students working with engineers for three days a week and studying for the other two continue to take a guaranteed position within Dyson when they graduate.
This is a great thing with 30 percent of 39 percent of women and low social economic pasts.
From the brains of tomorrow to the machines next year. In the beginning of 2026, Dyson’s robotic vacuum will explain the last repetition.
This was definitely a machine I wanted to try. Cleaning will come while sleeping, and the market is full of robots, Dyson’s current model, Vis Nav usually goes to the top in the test.
However, Dyson should remain ahead, and this means developing a machine that does not stand on the carpets, stuck under the kitchen stools, and recognizes objects of leaving a good alone, such as cables or paradise forbidden!
In a few months Dyson spot and rubbing AI will begin with the ability to recognize objects, vacuuming or wet grinding as appropriate! In order to clean your robot, you no longer clean the floors.
I was fascinated when I returned to the machine base and separated wet and dry red, cleansing and charging for the next session.
Trial and error: Alice reached the Dyson Headquarters – and put many vacuums at their speeds
Half of the vacuum cleaners sold in the UK Dyson
I was always surprised by Dyson’s market share: These machines are not cheap.
The truth is that the payment, will and 50 percent of the vacuum cleares sold in the UK are Dyson.
Now there is pressure to show long life and circular sustainability, so I press the buttons and pull the arms, the test laboratory that I simulate in a cleaning head and simulate the wear.
All Dyson Tech was built to work for seven years without intact.
After the days of machines, Dyson can be sent to Dyson and renewed models can be purchased at a discounted price.
Since everyone is very friendly, I dare to share that both my mother and my sister bought cheaply buying cheap batteries when the machines started to fade.
In half of a new Dyson battery, many will be what many do.
Street, my new engineering friends stressed that a bargaining spare battery will not have a long life, you will have to change earlier and there may be suspicious safety results.
They’re right, but it’s hard to push the message there.
Futuristic: Finding the optimum methodology for curling, shaking, straightening and drying hair
Beauty Laboratory Sustainable Agriculture Showcase
Behind every door in Dyson, there is someone who does something unexpected in a laboratory jacket in search of excellence – like Wonka.
In the Beauty Laboratory, some of the country’s largest brains spend hours to discover the optimum methodology for curling, shaking, straightening or drying.
A little macabre human hair shelves wait to be chosen for trial.
Each shaping tool has been developed to produce the desired results without damaging the hair.
For this purpose, the first Dyson cosmetic hair range was launched with a sunflower oil used in Dyson agricultural areas.
With more than 9,000 products, Dyson has never been an inward company with a product patent, but Lincolnshire, Oxfordshire, Gloucestershire and Somerset became a 36,000 acres of farming.
Curved hair and spotless floors may be the first world searches, but Dyson is now trying to solve the food safety problem and starts on the British territory.
Dyson, who approaches farming from the production perspective, increased traditionally grown strawberry yield by 250 percent and uses heat and CO2 from anaerobic digesters to enlarge all year round.
With a small anaerobic digestion of my own, I exemplified both strawberries from Lincolnshire and beef from Somperset agricultural land.
Both are extraordinary and this is exciting if the by -product of this agricultural method can heat and cool the houses.
Today’s dryers, vacuums and robotics may be long after being changed, sustainable agriculture may be James Dyson’s legacy.
James Dyson: Switchfight has started to solve the problem of ergonomics and now it deals with food safety
After three -hour test and finishing and obviously being enthusiastic about the continuously developing technology, I tried to secretly make a picture of the big mirrored glass building, known as the D9, sitting in the center of the Dyson campus.
It was the first ‘no’ company of the day. D9 is the place where there are secrets. Computer screens were covered and the passage of my visitors would never have access to me.
But since I rejected even a photo outside, I can say that Dyson cheats more arms for our future homes. Ferries? Air conditioners? I tried to ensure that the employees flushed or react to the right prediction.
These men have great poker faces and I have left the Gates content that I left in talented hands of future domestic rolling problems.
James Dyson is the Willy Wonka of really practical modern home technology.
Of course, it is difficult to compare a stylish, high -performance vacuum cleaner with an endless Gobstopper, but I know which one is much more useful in daily life…
