Keith Urban discusses loneliness on tour amid Nicole Kidman divorce

Months before their split, Keith Urban appeared to have Nicole Kidman on his mind.
Urban, 57, returned to television screens Sunday for the premiere of his reality television show “The Road,” in which a dozen aspiring musicians compete for a chance to open for him while touring the country.
During the series premiere, Urban performed “Straight Line” from his latest album “High.” The song marks the beginning of Urban’s 12th studio album, released in September 2024, and reflects his desire to escape a “soul-sucking rut,” he said on Instagram last year.

“I chose this one originally for many reasons, but especially because I thought it represented an energy and spirit that became the throughline of the entire album,” Urban told his social media followers in February 2024. “I’ll cover a lot of themes, emotions and vibes on this album, but there’s a very human spirit to it all.”

He stated that “‘Straight Line’ is about breaking free from a soul-sucking rut you might be stuck in: maybe in a relationship, a job, creativity, with yourself… whatever!! It’s a message of feeling alive again and getting out from under that dark cloud.”

Although the episode was filmed before Kidman filed for divorce from the “Somebody Like You” singer in September, Urban discussed feeling “lonely and miserable” while on the road.
“Where do we start? It’s a calling and you either make it or you don’t make it,” Urban said.

“When you wake up on a tour bus at 3:30 in the morning and you’re sick as a dog, when you’re in the middle of nowhere and you have to play your fifth show later that night, when you can’t sleep, when you miss your friends, when you miss your family, when you’re all alone and miserable and sick and you’re asking yourself, ‘Why am I doing this?’ you say.

Kidman, 58, and Urban were last seen together at the FIFA Club World Cup match between Los Angeles Football Club and Esperance de Tunis in Nashville in June.

In Kidman’s divorce filing, the Oscar-winning actress requested to be named the primary parent of her two minor children.
She also petitioned the court to approve a parenting plan for their daughter, allocating 306 days a year to herself and 59 days a year to Urban.
