It’s Always Tough Against Aussies, They’re Favorites Again for This World Cup: Heather Knight

The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup India 2025 is reaching fever pitch as England prepare to take on arch-rivals Australia in a crucial group stage match on October 22 (Wednesday). Having enjoyed their recent victory against India, England will look to continue their momentum against the reigning champions.

Speaking exclusively to JioStar, Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt and all-rounder Heather Knight discussed the formidable challenge posed by Australia, the history of their intense rivalry and the task of taking on all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner.

Heather Knight on Australian supremacy and Ashleigh Gardner:

“The Australian team is extremely strong. They’ve got a lot of depth and they seem to find a way. So it’s always difficult to come up against the Australians. I think it’s clear they’re the favorites for this World Cup. They’re the type of people who get chased and I think for everyone else it’s trying to find a way to do well against them and undo the incredible success they’ve had. I have huge respect for them as a team, play their cricket and how they do it.” I love playing against Australia. This is a real test and if you pass you will get great reward and satisfaction from it. I hope we can be successful against such a good team. Gardner is a great bowler. The tempo he throws and the offensive line he hits make him really tough. Someone who bowls in difficult situations, sometimes with the new ball, sometimes with the back end and mostly with the middle. “He’s definitely someone we’ll need. We’re playing well against him.”

Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt on the competition and the new conditions:

“I think the Australian team are very confident at the moment and are very highly ranked. We had great matches against Australia in the Ashes, but not so much in these conditions. We recently had a series against India in England and they got over the line in the 50-over format, it will be exciting to play them here again and see how we go. If we can be at our best as an England team.”
