David Parker Ray was a sadistic serial rapist and torturer. Authorities suspected that he might also be responsible for the deaths of many women.

Born in 1939, Ray was raised primarily by his grandparents, who had a strict and religious family in New Mexico, USA. During childhood, she and her sister Peggy were rarely visited by their violent, alcoholic father.

Growing up in a small rural town, Peggy was a popular and outgoing girl; Ray, on the other hand, was an introvert and largely kept to herself.

Although he had few friends at school and spent most of his time in solitude, Ray was not seen as a troublemaker, despite displaying unusual behavior throughout his childhood.

From an early age he had a sinister fascination with pornography and violence, which he carefully concealed from those around him. Daily Star reported.

It is also believed that he had a strange obsession with broken bottles and amassed a collection of them in a makeshift dungeon he built in the woods when he was 15.

He eventually joined the US Army and was honorably discharged after completing his service.

Ray was married several times and fathered many children; however, he abandoned their family and formed a meaningful bond with only one daughter, Glenda Jean Ray.

Described as “daddy’s girl” by Glenda Jean – later known as ‘Jesse’ – the pair became extraordinarily close as they got older.

One day he took an old caravan and turned it into a ‘Toy Box’, soundproofing it and installing a gynecological chair to restrain his victims.

The ceiling of the trailer was covered with mirrors, forcing the victims to watch the horrific ordeal being carried out on them.

The rest of the area was equipped with chains, whips, straps, handcuffs, saws and sex toys. The walls of the torture chamber were decorated with diagrams depicting various methods of infliction of pain in extremely disturbing detail.

One of the victims was 22-year-old Cynthia Vigil, who believed she was detained for soliciting illegal sex in a parking lot in 1999.

But after he was handcuffed by what looked like a police officer, he quickly realized something was very wrong. Before she had a chance to resist, the young woman was shocked, drugged and blindfolded; He woke up chained to a bed.

He suffered chained to a gynecological table for three days by Ray and three accomplices, including his girlfriend Cindy, Jesse, and his friend Dennis Yancy.

Fortunately, he managed to escape the nightmare after retrieving the keys to his chains left on a nearby table.

A fight broke out between Cynthia and Cindy, during which Cynthia stabbed Ray’s partner in the neck with an ice pick and fled.

Authorities were quickly alerted and Ray’s heinous crimes began to emerge.

Subsequent investigation determined that Jesse and Dennis were accomplices; Dennis confessed to killing his girlfriend, Marie Parker, after she was kidnapped and tortured by Ray.

When he was eventually caught and the FBI raided the trailer, they revealed disturbing audio recordings explaining to his victims what was going to happen to them.

In one captured recording, a victim was allegedly told she would be “completely and repeatedly raped” and described her as a “sex slave.”

Ray faced three separate lawsuits, one for each of the women who came forward to testify against him, including Cynthia, Angelica Montano and Kelli Garrett.

He became famous as the ‘Toy Box Killer’ and authorities suspected him of being responsible for a shocking 50 murders, although no bodies were ever found in connection with his crimes.

Jesse was sentenced to nine years in prison, Dennis to 30 years, and Cindy to 36 years.

On May 28, 2002, Ray was transferred to a facility in New Mexico for questioning by state police, but suffered a heart attack just before he was due to begin. He was 62 years old.

Reflecting on her heartbreaking ordeal in 2011, Cynthia said: “This was a very sick man. My only relief is that he is gone. If I hadn’t run away, I wouldn’t have had my three wonderful sons. I wouldn’t be here.”
