Search under way in California after jail accidentally releases murder suspect | California

A manhunt is underway in California after a murder suspect was mistakenly released from prison last week.

Contra Costa sheriff’s office in question He said he was investigating the release of Isaiah Jamon Andrews, 20, of Kent, Washington. Andrews was released from the Martinez detention facility in northern California on October 22.

At the time of his release, Andrews was being held on local charges, a juvenile arrest warrant in Sacramento, and an out-of-state arrest warrant for murder.

The sheriff’s office said that after staff noticed Andrews had been released, officers “initiated a search of the immediate area and confirmed that Andrews was no longer in the area.”

The U.S. Marshals Service’s search is ongoing and local law enforcement has been notified.

Seattle police earlier this month announced California police arrested Andrews and identified him as a murder suspect wanted in Seattle. According to Seattle police, officers linked Andrews to an Oct. 15 shooting in which he was suspected of killing a 20-year-old man in a hotel parking lot in Seattle’s Northgate neighborhood.

Andrews was being held at the Martinez detention facility while awaiting extradition to King County, Washington.

The Guardian has reached out to the Contra Costa sheriff’s office and the Seattle police department for comment.
