Babri replica event by TMC rebel in Bengal draws thousands

Trinamool suspended Humayun Kabir laid the foundation stone of a replica Babri mosque in Murshidabad’s Rejinagar on Saturday and thousands of people from the minority community turned up, many carrying bricks and sand to contribute to the construction. The incident triggered a political row, with BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya accusing the Trinamool Congress of trying to polarize voters.

Malviya alleged that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was using Kabir to sway Muslim sentiment for political gain and added that inputs from Beldanga had caused “serious concern”.

The Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the state government to maintain law and order and ensure social harmony, but refused to intervene in the PIL plea to postpone the incorporation ceremony.
Kabir, who cut the ceremony ribbon in the presence of the clergy at the event, claimed that 80 million pounds would be collected from various organizations for the mosque and that a hospital, school and helipad would be built in the area.

Meanwhile, Trinamool President Mamata Banerjee also gave a message of unity on social media.
