Loreto Toorak and Scotch College students achieve outstanding ATARs

The school had two members: Bethany Leung and Stephanie Leon, both of whom scored an outstanding 99.25 points.

“Academic excellence represents only one aspect of a Loreto Toorak education,” said Principal Angela O’Dwyer.

“The school’s mission is to nurture both intellectual curiosity and compassionate leadership in every student. We celebrate the diverse individual achievements of all students.”

The school’s combined average ATAR is 90.3, while the average study score is 36.

Up to 30 per cent of the group achieved an ATAR of 95 or above, while more than 12 per cent achieved an ATAR of 98 or above.

And in Melbourne’s north, Hume Central Secondary College student Sowmya Ghimire has been voted by her peers as the person most likely to change the world.

Known for his self-confidence, strong work ethic, and thoughtfulness, according to his fellow students, the 12th grader is also among the top academic performers among his peers. He achieved an ATAR of 92.4.

Sowmya said she was proud of her results and had plans for her future, which may include education.

At Scotch College, three boys achieved the maximum ATAR of 99.95 and were recognized as the college’s duces for 2025: Tommy Chu, Witter Onggara and Matthew Kriesner.

Ten Scottish boys achieved an ATAR of 99.90 or higher, with a total of 36 students achieving an ATAR of 99 or higher.

He also had 14 perfect study scores of 50 in 11 VCE subjects at school. Director Dr. Scott Marsh said the results reflected their hard work and resilience.

“Our students are not just scholars, but also athletes, musicians, leaders and contributors to the larger community,” he said.

Firbank girls’ school in Brighton has five students achieving an ATAR above 99, with the class of 2025 having an average ATAR of 86.02.

The school’s Dux was Martha Ickeringill, who achieved an impressive 99.85 and three perfect scores in English, health, human development and history of revolutions. Close behind was YuanYuan Li, who achieved an ATAR score of 99.65 and a perfect study score of 50 in chemistry.

Other excellent study scores were achieved in general mathematics and business management.

Firbank manager Jenny Williams said the result was outstanding. “They collaborated collectively with their peers and teachers,” he said.

At Brighton Grammar, school captain Charlie Sabin was named dux of the class of 2025, recording an ATAR of 99.95.

An avid actor, musician, vocalist and hockey player, Sabin received a perfect study score out of 50 in literature.

“We enjoyed challenges, we took risks, we loved each other, and we trusted that those around us would support us no matter what,” he said.

Sabin was one of four students at the Bayside school to score 50s: one in psychology, one in English, one in chemistry and one in general mathematics.

10 of the school’s 174 year 12 students achieved an ATAR of 99 or above.

Headteacher Ross Featherston congratulated the students and said the impressive results were a tribute to them striking the right balance between studying and other pursuits such as sport and music.

Amanda Un from Strathcona Girls Grammar said she always had her eye on the top of the ATAR. But he admits he’s not sure he’ll get there.

You don’t need to worry. His hard work was rewarded with a perfect ATAR of 99.95, making him dux of the school.

“I was shocked when I saw my result. It took me a minute to really understand what he was saying,” she said.

Six other students at the girls’ Baptist school achieved an ATAR of over 99.

Principal Lorna Beegan congratulated the students and stressed that their ATAR was “just one moment in your much larger story of progress and possibility.”
