Rafah Crossing reopens between Gaza and Israel with limited capacity

Israel and Egypt conducted a test to reopen the Rafah Gate between Egypt and Gaza on Sunday.

Israel’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), which oversees humanitarian and civilian efforts in Gaza, said the crossing will be open to the public starting Monday morning but will allow about 150 people a day to pass through at a limited capacity.

Those going to the border gate will be picked up by buses and brought in organized groups, and each of them will be cleared by Israeli intelligence.

Israeli forces will ensure the security of the crossings in coordination with Egypt and under the supervision of the European Union mission.

Gaza residents will be allowed to return from Egypt only to those who left Gaza during the war, and only after Israel grants prior security clearance.

“As part of President Trump’s 20-point plan, Israel agreed to the limited reopening of the Rafah Pass for pedestrian crossing only, subject to a full Israeli inspection mechanism,” the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said.

The Prime Minister’s Office said the reopening was contingent on the return of all living hostages, in what it described as Hamas’ “100 percent effort” to find and return the remains of all deceased hostages.
