Cyclone Ditwah: IMD issues high alert for TN, AP, says ‘Heavy to very heavy rainfall in south coastal area…’ – The Economic Times Video

As Cyclone Ditwah moves towards the Indian coast, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry are on high alert for more heavy rains. The meteorological department has also issued a red alert for the Bay of Bengal coast. IMD General Manager Dr. Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said the cyclone is currently concentrated over the Bay of Bengal near Sri Lanka and is moving in a north-northwest direction. Ditwah killed more than 120 people and left 130 missing in Sri Lanka. Most of the deaths occurred due to landslides following more than 300 mm of rain affecting the eastern and central regions. Approximately 44,000 people across the country were affected, and many were forced to seek shelter in schools and public buildings.
