Couple shocked by mystery message hidden on wall

A couple renovating their new home were left stunned after uncovering a strange message sent to a “new victim” hidden behind their bathroom wallpaper.

Tommi Cullen and her fiancé Jared Tirocchi had only planned a routine renovation when they started removing the wallpaper in their bathroom. Instead, they found an old dollar bill taped to the wall next to a handwritten note from almost two decades ago.

The message, dated September 2008, was signed by a man named Billy and read: “This will be the last time I hang wallpaper for Pat. Good luck to Pat’s new victim. I feel your pain.”

Tommi shared the discovery on TikTok, showing the moment Jared called her up to see what he had found. The clip quickly gained attention, with viewers speculating whether the note was a sign of something bad.

In reality, the term “victim” seems like a dark joke. Tommi reveals that Pat was the previous homeowner and Billy was probably a decorator who was tired of remodeling the same house over and over.

Speaking to Newsweek, Tommi said: “My fiancé called me from upstairs, I walked in and saw the dollar bill first. I thought it was so cool. Then I read the note and saw the date and I got emotional. The note was very funny, but it gives me goosebumps to think that it’s been somewhere no one can see it for almost 20 years.”

The couple later uncovered another relic: an old box of cough drops thought to have been hidden before the note.

Instead of throwing away the items, Tommi plans to preserve them. He said he plans to frame the bill and dollar bill next to the lozenge box and hang it in the bathroom as a permanent reminder of the house’s secret history.
