What happened?
Azizur Rahman Musabbir was shot dead at around 8pm near the Super Star Hotel near the Bashundhara City Shopping Complex, a busy commercial area in central Dhaka. Fazlul Karim, additional deputy commissioner of Tejgaon District of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, confirmed the incident.
Police confirmed that two people, including Musabbir, were shot after the attackers opened fire at close range. While both of them were rushed to BRB Hospital, one of them was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for further treatment.
While Musabbir died at the scene before reaching the hospital because he was injured by a bullet in his abdomen, another person, identified as Sufiyan Byapuri Masud, was also injured in the gun attack but his condition is stable.
Who is Azizur Rahman Musabbir?
Azizur Rahman Musabbir, aged about 45, was the former leader of the Swechchhasebak Dal, the voluntary wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. According to reports, Sufiyan Byapuri Masud Masud is the general secretary of Tejgaon thana Van Workers Union and a resident of Keraniganj.
BNP leaders held a protest demonstration
According to the report, after the murder of Azizur Rahman Musabbir, around 200 BNP leaders and activists gathered at Karwan Bazar junction and staged a protest. Previously, BNP leader Osman Hadi was shot and killed in Dhaka. The BNP claims this is all part of a larger conspiracy to intimidate the opposition ahead of the election. The party said, “Our leaders are being attacked in a planned manner. The current government wants to make the election one-sided.”
