The change of leadership comes in difficult times for fast-food restaurants. Consumers often do not eat and seek agreements when they do. Such discounts can be heavy on restaurants on razor profit margins.
Subway himself comes with his own difficulties. It is the largest US restaurant chain, which has more than 19,500 locations according to the number of stores, but competition from fast and other sandwich chains has eroded its market share in the last 15 years.
