Melbourne weather shines on sunny race day in Flemington; Fashions on the Field in focus; guide to horses, form, tips ahead of main race at 5.10pm
After all the excitement and drama of Tuesday we’re back at Flemington but today’s racing won’t start until 1pm. The track is a gentle 5; The rail is twenty feet outside the entire circuit.
Today’s main draw will be at the VRC Oaks, which will take place at 17.10. This is a race over 2500 meters and Getta Good Feeling, which includes Mark Zahra, is the favourite.

Carnival jockey Zahra will be racing for her third group 1 victory in six days after capturing four wins on Saturday, including the Coolmore Stud Stakes and Victoria Derby, and taking victory in the Wakeful Stakes on the Danny O’Brien-trained Getta Good Feeling.
O’Brien is preparing for her second VRC Oaks having won the 2500m group 1 stay test for three-year-old fillies with Miami Bound in 2017.
My best bet for the day is Guerite, who qualified 6th in race 6. Guerite had taken off his wings on the last start at Bendigo as he flew home in a race for the lead. We just need to go the extra 200 meters and repeat the dose and Guerite will be hard to beat in the Melbourne Cup Carnival Country final.
My rough friend Regal Azmon (race 5, No.7) – sneaky luck in a tight race. Phillip Stokes is an expert at setting up and placing his horses and this looks like a well-planned third objective.
Oaks Day quartet: 1st game: 6, 15; 2nd match: 1, 4, 5, 6 9, 7, 10, 11, 13; 3rd match: 1, 7; 4th leg: 1, 2.
