NTR Police, Banks Join Hands To Curb Cyber Frauds

: As part of efforts to curb cyber crimes and the growing menace of ‘digital arrest’ fraud, NTR District Police Commissionerate on Saturday held an awareness meeting with senior bank officials under the Cyber Suraksha programme.

The meeting, held at the Police Commissioner’s Office, was chaired by city police commissioner SV Rajasekhar Babu and was attended by general managers, deputy general managers and senior representatives of banks operating in the city. Discussions focused on preventive measures, public awareness and coordinated actions against online scams.

Speaking at the meeting, the commissioner said that cybercrime has emerged as a major challenge and that criminals are constantly developing new methods despite police intervention. He emphasized that a collective approach involving the police, banks and the public is required to effectively prevent such crimes.

He stated that around 10,000 CCTV cameras have been installed in the boundaries of the commission with the cooperation of the public and this has helped detect many critical cases. The use of advanced technologies such as ASTRAM has also improved traffic management.

Under the Cyber Suraksha initiative, police teams have been conducting months-long awareness drives in banks, training staff and customers on identifying digital arrest scams, online frauds and proper reporting procedures. Bank officials were informed about the www.ntrpolice.in Cyber Crime Awareness and Prevention Portal and were asked to publicize it among customers.

The commissioner called on bankers to act as key partners to prevent citizens from falling prey to cybercriminals. Senior police officers and around 120 bank officials attended the meeting.
