Trump in surprising Elon Musk move just six months after Tesla founder’s new party pledge | World | News

Donald Trump appears to have extended an olive branch to Elon Musk as the tech billionaire praises the US President’s decision to strike Venezuela. The US President took to the social media platform Truth Social on January 3, just hours after holding a press conference addressing the overnight attack on Venezuela.

On Truth Social, Mr. Trump shared two X messages from tech billionaire Mr. Musk. In the first message, Mr. Musk reposted a message from the White House: “God bless the US military.” The world’s richest man simply added: “Yes.” In Mr. Musk’s second message, which was republished by Mr. Trump, the Tesla founder and CEO shared another message in which he was quoted as saying: “I am a citizen of the United States and I only have that passport. No matter what, I will fight for America and die in America.”

Apparently backing the message, Mr Musk commented: “Yes.”

Mr. Musk first wrote the message in September 2023 in response to criticism of his decision a year ago not to allow Ukraine access to the Starlink communications network through Russian-occupied Sevastopol because of Kiev’s alleged desire to hit Russian ships in the region. Starlink terminals connect to SpaceX satellites in orbit and are vital in maintaining internet connectivity in Ukraine as Russian attacks disrupt civilian infrastructure.

Mr Musk said in 2023 that he had failed to comply with Ukraine’s request to not make SpaceX “complicit in a major act of war”.
