Woolwich shooting: Major police update issued after boy, 14, shot dead in London | UK | News

A 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of murder as police investigate the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy in south-east London. Eghosa Ogbebor was shot dead in Lord Warwick Street, Woolwich. Police were called to the scene at around 3.40pm on Thursday, April 2, and attended the scene along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service. Police said the boy was found with “serious injuries” and sadly died at the scene.

Police said two boys, aged 14 and 16, and an 18-year-old man, who were arrested in connection with the teenager’s death on Friday, April 3, were released on bail. In an update on Easter Sunday, officers said they arrested a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man on suspicion of murder on Saturday. They are being detained.

A 46-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remains in custody.

Scotland Yard said Eghosa’s family was being supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector Lucie Card, whose team led the investigation, said: “Our team of dedicated detectives are continuing their investigations into the tragic death of Eghosa.

“Residents in Woolwich may have noticed a significant amount of police activity last night as officers arrested a further three men in connection with the investigation.

“We appreciate the concern Eghosa’s death has caused, particularly among local residents who will continue to see an increased police presence in the area.

“There may be people in the area who have heard information or witnessed suspicious activity but have not yet contacted the police. We ask that these people contact us and assist in the investigation.

“We will continue to support and update Eghosa’s family as the investigation continues and our thoughts remain with them at this incredibly difficult time.”
