Armed man arrested in Melbourne’s CBD after wild police chase

A dramatic police chase in Melbourne’s CBD during the morning rush hour has ended with the arrest of an allegedly armed man.

Tactical police swooped on the man in a lane near Pellegrini’s Espresso Bar on Bourke Street following a series of alleged car thefts in Tarneit and North Melbourne.

Witnesses saw police swarming into side streets and a man running through office buildings.

Victoria Police said the man was armed with a firearm and was detained for questioning.
