SBS resists calls to join EU boycott of Eurovision 2026 if Israel allowed to compete | SBS

SBS said that if Israel is allowed to compete, it will not follow the leadership of the European Union country and will not boycott the Eurovision Song Contest next year.

The decision on the involvement of Israel will be given by the administrative body of the competition in December, but the SBS aims to participate in the 2026 event in Vienna, regardless of the decision of December on Tuesday.

The deadline for the publishers to apply for participation would end on Monday, and then a 28 -day referee period in which a country could withdraw its application without a financial penalty.

However, at the beginning of this month, the European Publishing Association (EBU) announced that the Eurovision Song Contest Reference Group decided to extend it to mid -December with the director of the event Martin Green and the Group made a statement that he wanted to provide “additional flexibility and clarity”.

Ireland, Slovenia, Spain, the Netherlands and Iceland, the human crisis in Gaza continues to intensify, Abu Israel’in compete if allowed to participate already said they are already reluctant, he said.

In 2022, Abu excluded Russia from the competition shortly after the occupation of Ukraine.

On Wednesday, Eurovision reported that the Israeli media proposed to Israel’s public publisher Kan, either temporarily withdrawn or competed under an impartial symbol to prevent official exclusion.

Green told the Guardian Australia in his statement, “Abu did not make any proposals to participate in the Eurovision song contest next year,” Green said.

Uz We understand concerns and organize in -depth opinions about the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. We are still consulting all EBU members to collect opinions about how we manage geopolitical tensions around the Eurovision song contest.

“Publishers have to approve of whether they want to participate in the next year’s event in Vienna until mid -December. Deciding whether they want to participate in the contest is up to every member and we will respect the decisions of the publishers.”

Blood General Manager Golan Yochpaz emphasized that the Israeli Times is not a political battlefield but a cultural celebration, and emphasized the powerful record of its nation in recent years, and emphasized the first five ends since the Foundation of the Kan’s Foundation in 2017.

The Australian greens and the Australian Palestinian defender Network (APAN) asked SBS to participate in the boycott.

Greens Foreign Spokesman Senator David Shoebridge, “Glitz, Sparkles and Eurovision music” should not be put on human rights, he said.

“Slovenia, Ireland, the Netherlands, and others, Eurovision 2026 told Israel that they would not sing if they gave the scene of the world for a genocide, and it’s time to join Australia’s principled calls,” he said.

“Eurovision’s ‘Union through Music’ theme is difficult to swallow when a contestant is doing ethnic cleansing, he hunger civilians and kills children.”

Shoebridge blamed Eurovision for “gross double standards ,, by prohibiting Russia’s competition on war crimes in Ukraine, but the human crisis deepened in Gaza.

“It is not a competition that Australia should be near,” he said.

APAN President Nasser Mashni said that Israel should not be allowed to compete in Eurovision, Football World Cup or Olympics.

Mashni said, “These activities should be separated for countries that play with international rules and do not do genocide,” Mashni said.

“If they are allowed to participate, it is the obligation to boycott other countries.”

Israel rejected a genocide in Gaza.

SBS refused to confirm that Ebu had contacted the Australian publisher to discuss Israel’s participation.

“The SBS has been publishing the Eurovision Song Contest for more than 40 years and shares this global diversity celebration with all Australians,” he said.

“SBS plans to continue this tradition with the participation of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest. The decision on Israel’s participation in Eurovision will be made by EBU in the coming months.”
