Man falls ‘several floors’ as police seal off city centre scene | UK | News

A man was taken to hospital with serious injuries after falling “several floors” into a packed city center bar in Birmingham. Following the horrific incident at Henman and Cooper, emergency services descended on Colmore Row on Sunday evening, with police taping off the entrance and standing guard at the door.

As the drama progressed, a steady stream of revelers filed away from the venue, while shocked onlookers gathered nearby to watch emergency crews work. At the height of the incident, BirminghamLive At least eight emergency vehicles, including police cars and ambulances, lined the busy downtown street, following earlier reports that multiple units rushed to the scene. The man is understood to have fallen “several floors” of the building, which has a spiral staircase and a rooftop terrace at the popular cocktail bar. As officers entered and exited the venue, workers were seen holding materials at the entrance to protect the stage from the public.

Just after 8pm a West Midlands Police spokesman said: “We are now in Colmore Row Birmingham city center after a man is understood to have fallen several floors of a building.

“He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“We are currently at the scene together with our colleagues in the emergency services and are trying to establish all the circumstances.”

A woman drinking in a nearby pub told BirminghamLive she was “overwhelmed” by the scale of the response.

He said: “I soon heard that a man had been injured. It looked very serious.

“I hope he’s okay. You’d think he was just having fun, so it’s a little crazy.”

The incident took place near City Hall in one of the busiest parts of Birmingham’s business district, just before the road was pedestrianized.

Later in the evening, the crime scene was scaled back, with two police officers remaining at the entrance while investigations continued behind police tape.

The bar is not expected to reopen tonight.
