Disney Channel star Matt Prokop’s ex-girlfriend breaks silence on his shock child pornography charge as she alleges ‘years of abuse’

Disney Channel star Matt Prokop’s ex-girlfriend has broken her silence after shocking child pornography accusations emerged.

The 35-year-old actor, known for his roles in Disney projects such as Geek Charming and High School Musical 3: Senior Year, was arrested on Christmas Eve in Texas.

Prokop is being held without bail in a Victoria County jail. He was initially arrested for evading and resisting arrest, as well as violating bail conditions on a series of previous charges filed in 2024.

However, following the arrest warrant signed on December 31, an additional charge of ‘possession or promotion of child pornography’ was brought.

Now Prokop’s ex-girlfriend has detailed the abuse she allegedly suffered for years during their relationship, as the actor faces new accusations.

Prokop is currently being held in a Victoria County jail without bail and was initially booked on charges of evading and resisting arrest, as well as violating bail conditions.

His former partner told the Daily Mail: ‘After years of abuse the effects are still very real and continue to affect my life.

‘I am currently taking time to recover privately with the support of close friends and family.

‘The passage of this period does not diminish the seriousness or harm of his actions.

‘As more information emerges, I ask that all victims be treated with care, dignity and respect.’

Prokop’s ex met him on social media at a young age, but their romantic relationship did not begin until Prokop was an adult. The couple got engaged in January 2024.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Prokop’s representatives for comment on the allegations.

Prokop was previously arrested in Texas in May 2024 for allegedly attacking his girlfriend.

According to the Victoria Police Department at the time, the two were on a weekend trip when Prokop’s girlfriend allegedly told someone he was attacking her.

About an hour later, officers responded to a disturbance in another area and found Prokop and his girlfriend.

The investigation revealed that Prokop allegedly pushed the woman and hit her head against something, resulting in injuries that warranted arrest.

Prokop reportedly tried to escape by turning away from officers while they were arresting him.

Prior to this incident, his ex-girlfriend and former Disney co-star Sarah Hyland, now 35, had filed a restraining order against him.

Prokop was previously arrested in Texas, where he arrived in May 2024, for allegedly attacking his girlfriend.

The actors dated from 2008 to 2014 after meeting at an audition for High School Musical 3: Senior Year, where he played Jimmie.

She appeared in an episode of Modern Family with the actor in 2012, and also appeared in the films Geek Charming (2011), Struck by Lightning (2012), and April Apocalypse (2013).

Prokop was also credited as the producer of the 2015 film See You in Valhalla.

Hyland claimed Prokop was verbally and physically abusive throughout their four-year relationship until her Modern Family mom, Julie Bowen, stepped in and helped her end things.

In her legal application, she described an incident in which Prokop allegedly pinned her against a car and strangled her.

“He was holding me so tight I couldn’t breathe or speak,” Hyland said in court documents. ‘I was scared and afraid for my life.’

After Prokop entered rehab in August 2014, someone from the institution called him to warn him about his mental state upon release and recommended that a restraining order be issued against him.

In September, Hyland was granted a temporary restraining order that became permanent a month later, requiring him to stay at least 1,000 feet away from her and her dog.

Prokop’s representatives did not respond to requests for comment from the Daily Mail or other media outlets about Hyland’s allegations at the time.

In October 2024, the actor said he was still “triggered” by a past abusive relationship.

During an interview, she described her experience as a victim of domestic violence. Diversity.

Hyland said speaking openly about domestic violence is “really important” and talked about the long-term experiences survivors of post-traumatic stress disorder can have.

However, the Modern Family alum did not name the boyfriend who hit her at the time.

‘[It stays] ‘There’s that abused place in your soul where you always thought it was your fault and you could have done better, you could have come out sooner and told people.’

The actress eventually added: ‘You don’t want to talk about it anymore. You want it done, that’s all.

‘I completely understand the dissociation model of this. I’m very guilty of this too…until something happens that triggers me and I don’t realize that part of me is healing.’

‘This is something that hurts his soul a bit. It’s about putting love into that scar instead of hating it and ignoring it.’

Hyland also said about domestic violence: ‘We haven’t talked about it for thousands of years. I believe that society does not share enough.

‘And I think the more we talk about this issue, the more women, men and people in general who are in abusive relationships will feel more comfortable being able to talk about it with their loved ones.

‘Instead of letting abusers isolate them from everyone else, which is the first thing they do, so you don’t have that community.’
