Police installing ITMS in Yadgir to enhance road safety

The Police Department has taken steps to install Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) in Yadgir district to optimize traffic flow, improve road safety and reduce congestion.
The state government, through the Commissioner of Traffic and Road Safety, has released ₹2.40 crore for ITMS installation across the district and a tender will be floated for the purpose.
Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar shared this information with the media here on Saturday.
“ITMS has been planned to be installed in Yadgir city, Shahapur city, Shorapur city, Bheemarayanagudi and other important places. A total of ₹25 lakh is being spent on installation of each ITMS,” he said.
“ITMS, an advanced system that uses artificial intelligence, sensors and data analytics to optimize traffic flow, improve road safety and reduce congestion, has high-resolution CCTV cameras, automatic license plate recognition (ANPR) system, vehicle speed detection system (VSDS), cat eyes and digital signage. These advanced technologies enable systematic traffic movement and traffic rule. “It helps detect violations,” he said.
Mr. Shankar said that once ITMS is installed, if rules such as irregular vehicle parking, rash driving, triple driving, wrong routes and excessive speed are automatically generated, penalties will be imposed for violation and information regarding such violations will be sent via message to the mobile number registered in the vehicle.
The ministry has also planned to secure district and inter-state borders by installing CCTV cameras at 14 checkpoints connecting districts like Kalaburagi and Vijayapura in Karnataka and Narayanpet in neighboring Telangana.
“The operation of CCTV cameras will help prevent illegal activities across the border,” he added.
Stating that the police now inspect vehicles manually, Mr. Shankar said that vehicles were fined in 750 cases where drivers were found to have violated the rules, including mobile phone use, triple driving and excessive speeding.
“A fine of ₹500 is imposed as punishment for using a mobile phone and in three special cases of underage driving, a fine of ₹25,000 was imposed each,” he added.
