President Donald Trump shot down speculation he would run for vice president in 2028, telling reporters aboard Air Force One that Republicans already have “great” potential candidates.
Trump made the remark during a banter with reporters on Sunday, dodging questions about whether he would fully pursue such an option. Trump pointed to Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio as two potential successors, while calling potential Democratic nominees “low IQ.”
“We’ve got great people. I don’t need to get into this, but one of them is standing right here. Of course, we have JD. The Vice President is great. I think Marco is great. I’m not sure anyone could disagree with them. I think if they formed a group, they would be unstoppable,” Trump said.
“They have Jasmine Crockett, a person with a low IQ. AOC has a low IQ. If you give her an IQ test, make her pass the tests that I decided to take when I was at Walter Reed. I passed them very hard, they’re really aptitude tests in a sense, I guess, but cognitive tests. Let AOC stand up to Trump. Let Jasmine stand up to him,” he continued.

“The first few questions are easy. A tiger, an elephant, a giraffe, you know. Once you get to five or six, then 10, 20, 25, they didn’t come close to answering any of those questions,” he claimed.
When asked if he would run for vice president in 2028, Trump said he “would be allowed to do that” but called the plan “very sweet.”

“I guess it’s the White House, the White House lawyers, or your legal position that can do this?” a reporter pressed.
“You’d be allowed to do that, but I wouldn’t do that. I think that’s sweet,” Trump responded.

Trump’s comments came as he met with world leaders as he traveled through Asia on a five-day tour this week. The President landed in Japan early Tuesday morning and is expected to meet newly elected Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Tokyo. Takaichi is Japan’s first female prime minister.
