Explaining the Pentagon media rules (which The Australian signed)

As part of the Trump administration’s latest crackdown on press freedom, the Pentagon issued an edict on media operating inside the building and tightened rules on what news organizations claim is routine newsgathering.

The memo is a slightly watered-down version of the policy first laid out by the Trump administration in late September that required journalists to pledge not to collect or use information not authorized to be officially released by the administration or otherwise lose press access.
