Jesy Nelson Shares Twin Daughters’ Spinal Muscular Atrophy Diagnosis

Jesy Nelson is opening up about her babies’ health.

“We were told they would probably never walk, they would probably never regain their neck strength so they would be disabled,” Jesy said. “And the best we can do right now is get them treated and then hope for the best.”
She added: “Luckily the girls got their treatment and I’m very grateful for that because without treatment they will die.”
She also acknowledged how her little girls’ diagnosis changed her own life.
“There were endless hospital appointments,” she shared. “I almost feel like the hospital has become my second home. I also feel like within two weeks of being diagnosed I almost had to become a nurse because now I have to put them on breathing machines and do a lot of things that no mother should really have to do to her child.”
The “Love Me Like You” hitmaker shared that the last few months have been “the most heartbreaking time of my life,” adding that she feels like she’s “suffering from the life I thought I would have with my kids.”
“And I know I should be grateful, because at the end of the day, they’re still here and that’s the main thing, and they got the treatment,” she said. “And I truly believe that my girls will defy all odds, and with the right help, they will fight through it and continue to do things that have never been done before.”
As for why the mother of two wanted to go public with her daughter’s health condition, she felt she was making a call to spread awareness about the disease, especially when it comes to the importance of early diagnosis.
Jesy continued: “If I can raise as much awareness as possible about this issue and the signs, I think something good must come out of it.”
