Augusta National flags Jason Day’s Malbon golf outfit again at Masters

The Masters Tournament is all about tradition, and that includes everything down to the attire golfers wear over the four days at Augusta National Golf Club.

This was on display last year when Australian star Jason Day was asked to keep his jersey. Malbon Golf The clothes are a little more reserved. But it looks like he’s already starting to push the limits before heading out on his first tour on Thursday.

Day, a former world No. 1 golfer, was spotted during a practice round Monday in Malbon’s “Birds of Georgia” collection, wearing a top featuring many different birds, from orios to cardinals, woodpeckers and more. The outfit was supposed to have matching pants, but he told Augusta National Day he had to wear regular, solid-colored pants instead, Sports Illustrated reported.

This comes after Malbon took to social media to drop Day’s vigils throughout the week.

“If you’re on the course, surrounded by nature and know the bird sounds, you’ll make more birdies,” said Malbon Golf founder Stephen Malbon. he told the outlet About Day’s lineup this week. “It’s inspired by Native American beliefs. Each of these birds has a different meaning. I’ve been sending bird sounds to Jason for the last six months. I hope he’s trying to connect with nature.”

Throughout the week, Day’s birdwatcher-themed outfits will even include a vest. Set for Wednesday’s practice round.

Day isn’t the only Malbon athlete in the field, either. Sungjae Im will be rocking Malbon’s bird-themed outfits.

Day made national headlines in 2024 with his first Masters collaboration with Malbon. He was seen wearing a vest with “No. 313. Malbon Golf Championship” written in bold letters and blue loose-fitting trousers.

However, due to rain on Thursday, the vest was no longer worn when Day arrived on the course for his next round on the same day.

Day explained that Augusta National told him to take off the sweater and he did as he was told because he didn’t want to ruffle any feathers in the first major of the year.

“My manager got a call from upstairs and said, ‘Hey, we need Jason to take that vest off.'”

Day said last year’s original Masters plans were “much crazier” than the 2024 lineup and that the Masters himself had requested an early look at what he was expected to wear. Plans had to be changed.

But while Day admitted he’s “not here to step on anyone’s toes because I know when we play in the Masters it’s all about the Masters,” his outfits this week already appear to be pushing the envelope.

This will be Day’s 15th appearance at the Masters Tournament at Augusta National, with his best finish coming in 2011 when he finished in a tie for second.
