Vijay’s TVK gets ‘whistle’ symbol for 2026 Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday, January 22, 2026, allotted the ‘whistle’ symbol to actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) for the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

The debutant TVK had approached the ECI on November 11 last year, seeking allocation of an electoral symbol to the party under the provisions of the Electoral Symbols (Reservation and Allocation) Order, 1968. He submitted for consideration a list of seven symbols already present in the list of free symbols and three symbols he had created.

Meanwhile, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM), led by actor-politician Kamal Haasan, was given the ‘battery torch’ symbol by the ECI. MNM had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2021 State Assembly elections with the same symbol.
