Barack Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize for ‘absolutely nothing’; I stopped 8 wars: Donald Trump

As the world awaits this year’s Nobel Peace Prize announcement, US President Donald Trump has reignited a familiar rivalry: this time, he’s taken direct aim at Barack Obama. Speaking in the Oval Office on Thursday, Trump claimed his predecessor “got this award for doing nothing” while touting his own peaceful record.

Speaking to reporters attended by the Prime Minister of Finland, Trump said, “He got an award for doing nothing… He was elected and they gave it to Obama because he did nothing but destroy our country… Obama was not a good president.”

His remarks came just days after he announced what he called a “historic peace agreement” between Israel and Hamas, which he said brought an end to two years of war in Gaza.

Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2009, just eight months into his first term; It was a move that caused global consternation, even leading the New York Times to call it “too soon.”

Trump, who has long expressed disdain for the award’s decision-making, appeared to use that history to contrast his own record.
“I’ve stopped eight wars, so this has never happened before, but they have to do what they do,” he said. “No matter what they do, it’s okay. I know this: I didn’t do it for that reason, I did it because I saved a lot of lives.”
The president said he plans to travel to Egypt in the coming days for the official signing of the Israel-Hamas agreement, which includes the release of all remaining hostages within 72 hours of the ceasefire. According to Trump, approximately 20 Israeli prisoners are expected to return home early next week.
Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya confirmed that the group had received assurances from “fraternal mediators and the US administration that the war is ‘completely over.'” In return, Israel is expected to release 250 Palestinians sentenced to life imprisonment and 1,700 Palestinians detained since the conflict began.

“This will be a joyful day,” Trump said, adding that the agreement was “a new page for peace.” Middle East.

The Nobel Peace Prize will be announced in Oslo on Friday. Among the prominent ones is the Sudan Emergency Response Rooms, a grassroots network that has been providing health assistance across the country since the outbreak of war in 2023. Time will tell whether Trump’s self-declared “eight-war ceasefire” will resonate with the Nobel Committee.
