Dog-sized dinosaur that scuttled around feet of giants 150m years ago to be displayed at Natural History Museum
A new, dog -sized dinosaur type, which once standing between the giants’ feet, was discovered after it was incorrectly categorized.
It is believed that Enigmacursor, which means “mysterious runner ,, lived about 150 million years ago.
64 cm tall and 180 cm long, dinosaur is roughly the size of a labrador, but larger feet and a longer tail than the rest of the dinosaur.
His long legs would allow this small herbivores to move away from the danger while wandering in the network of rivers and flood deposits extending in large parts of the Western United States, where he was discovered.
Probably there was next to the giants of dinosaur species, including diplodocus and carnivorous Ceratosaurus.
On Thursday, it will be the first new dinosaur exhibited at the Nature History Museum. It will be placed on the balcony of the museum’s earth hall.
The fossils were found in a private land between 2021 and 2022 and were sold through a commercial fossil seller.
The finding was initially proclaimed as an animal from Nanosaurus, a very little known species called in the 1870s.
After purchasing fossils of the Natural History Museum, Paleontologists realized that their understanding of Nanosaurus species was largely based on preserved impressions of the bones pressed largely hardened sand.
However, this discovery contained almost a complete skeleton. Experts believe that they can predict the age of the dinosaur along the dinosaur spine based on a lack of neural belt fused on the spot, which shows that he is a young man who died before growing up.
Experts say that the discovery hopes that hundreds of unidentified bones that have previously been classified as Nanosaurus can now be understood correctly.
Professor Susannah Maidment, who is one of the most important researchers Enigmacursor, says he hopes that this will pave the way for the identification of smaller dinosaurs that are usually ignored.
“Morrison formation has been well known for a long time, while most of the focus was to look for the largest and most impressive dinosaurs,” he said. “Smaller dinosaurs usually fall behind, so there are still many people on the floor.”
“Enigmacursor shows that there are many things to be discovered even in this well -worked area, and emphasizes how important it is to get historical assumptions about dinosaurs.”
