England crumbles off-field too! Harry Brook apologises, escapes sacking after ECB final warning in nightclub incident; fined Rs…

Harry Brook was in major trouble off the field following an incident with a nightclub bouncer, forcing him to apologize and prompting a stern warning from the England and Wales Cricket Board. Reports claim that Brook narrowly avoided being sacked as England captain and was fined Rs 36 lakh, adding to England’s embarrassment.

Harry Brook went into the Ashes with significant expectations not only to score runs but also to conduct himself properly during the tour, as he had received a ‘final warning’ from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) for his poor behavior in New Zealand before the series. A report from The Daily Telegraph suggests the England white-ball captain had a confrontation with a nightclub bouncer before arriving in New Zealand ahead of the Ashes.

According to the report, the right-hander was on the verge of being sacked as captain of the England white-ball teams due to these incidents. It is also stated that he was fined £30,000 ($40,330), which is the maximum penalty imposed by the ECB for this situation.

This altercation took place on October 31 last year, just hours before the third ODI between England and New Zealand. Brook was denied entry to the nightclub because security guards believed he was drunk. The 26-year-old later argued with a bouncer and was shot. Fortunately he did not suffer any injuries and went on to captain England the following afternoon.

Harry Brook apologized

“I would like to apologize for my behaviour. I fully accept that my behavior was wrong and brought shame to both myself and the England team,” Brook told The Daily Telegraph.

“Representing England is my greatest honor and I take it seriously and I am deeply sorry to have let my team-mates, coaches and fans down. “I have reflected on the lessons this has taught me about responsibility, professionalism and the standards expected of those who represent your country.

“I am determined to learn from this mistake and rebuild trust through my future actions both on and off the field. I apologize unreservedly and will work hard to ensure this does not happen again.”

According to the report, Brook personally informed the ECB about the incident. England managed to score just six runs in the match as they faced a two-wicket defeat. New Zealand defeated England, winning the series 3-0.

Recently Brook was also spotted drinking amid controversy over England players’ trip to Noosa during breaks between Ashes matches. The 26-year-old, considered the next big star in English cricket, had an uninspiring tour of Australia, where he made just two half-centuries in 10 innings and totaled 358 runs as his side lost the Ashes 1-4.
