Diver drowns during vessel inspection at shipyard

A contract diver working with Cochin Shipyard Limited drowned while carrying out repair work on a naval ship on Tuesday, December 2, 2025. The deceased was identified as 25-year-old Anwar Sadhath, a native of Vazhayur in Malappuram. He was working for an underwater services company based in Chullikkal.

According to the Kochi City police, the accident occurred around 4.15 pm when Sadhath was carrying out a well inspection on the ship. His colleagues sensed there was trouble when he did not respond to repeated signals from the supervisory team.

Immediately after notifying company officials, two divers entered the water and brought Sadhath to the surface. It was announced that the person who was taken to the hospital died.

After the autopsy, the body was handed over to the family by the police. A case of unnatural death has been recorded.
