Contract killer tested toxic bean stew on dogs before poisoning victim | World | News

A woman has admitted poisoning 10 dogs as a test test before allegedly killing an elderly man with poisoned bean stew.
Ana Paula Veloso, described by Police Chief Halisson Ideiao as a “psychopath” and serial killer, is accused of killing retiree Neil Correa da Silva by serving him poisoned bean stew at the Baixada Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Detectives suspect Veloso was aided in the murder by the victim’s daughter, Michele Paiva da Silva; The girl allegedly also paid to travel from Guarulhos to Rio to assist in the assassination.
Both Veloso and Paiva da Silva are currently in police custody and are suspected of involvement in three more murders. Mr Halisson explained: “He admits to killing 10 dogs with this poison by testing the method and timing. He knew exactly how long, the dose and what would happen to people who consumed what he offered.”
This revelation followed the discovery of terbufos, a pesticide slightly less effective than lead, in Veloso’s home. Mirror.
The investigation also led Sao Paulo police to question Veloso’s twin sister, Roberta. According to Mr. Halisson: “He also actively participated in Neil’s death by providing moral and material assistance,” G1 reported.
The victim’s daughter, Michele Paiva da Silva, a 42-year-old law student, was arrested outside Engenho Novo University in Rio on Tuesday. Neil, 65, passed away on April 26 at Adao Pereira Nunes Municipal Hospital, and his body was exhumed for forensic examination to determine whether he was poisoned.
Police claimed that the father-daughter relationship was tense, and that Ana and Michele, described as friends, were at home when they fell ill and were subsequently hospitalized. Phone messages later emerged between the two women discussing the poisoning of Mr Correa da Silva.
Police link the pensioner’s death to three other poisonings in Guarulhos and now suspect they were planned by Veloso and Paiva da Silva. “Ana Paula poisoned four people, including Neil, on Michelle’s orders,” Mr Halisson said.
He also revealed that Veloso had previously come under police scrutiny after claiming to be the victim of an attempted cake poisoning. But detectives believe it was a ruse to frame another person.
Mr Halisson said: “Ana Paula Veloso came to our police station because of an allegation of a poisoned cake at a university. She planted this poisoned cake with the intention of framing a third party.
“Through this investigation, we have concluded that Ana Paula is a serial killer and not the victim in this case.”
