Eluru Carpets Get National ODOP Tag

Kakinada:Eluru carpet industry has received One District-One Product (ODOP) approval by the Central Government; This marks a significant boost for one of Andhra Pradesh’s traditional handicraft sectors. The initiative aims to revitalize the region’s once-thriving carpet industry by encouraging modernisation, skills development and market expansion.
District collector K. Vetri Selvi inaugurated two modern looms on Thursday during his visit to Eluru Pile Carpet Weavers Cooperative Sales and Purchasing Center and Eluru Manufacturing Association Centre. He said that the management will fully support the revival of the sector with advanced technology, modern designs and quality production methods.
The collector has directed the joint collector to prepare a detailed report on the needs of carpet manufacturers and workers, while the industries department has also been directed to assess the infrastructure and financial needs of the sector. He assured that the government would facilitate loans, subsidies and other support to encourage youth to set up small and medium scale industrial and food processing units in the region.
Imtiaz Ahmed, president of Eluru Pile Carpet Weavers Cooperative Buying and Selling Association, appealed to the collector to provide free training to 100 workers for 18 months on modern carpet weaving technologies. He also demanded that encroachments on community-owned buildings be removed. Ahmed noted that the industry has started receiving product orders from Uttar Pradesh and called for continued government assistance to help the industry develop.
District Industries General Manager P. Subrahmanyeswara Rao, Tahsildar K. Gayatri Devi and Community Director Md. Akbar was present.
